Laser : 3D View

A laser survey is made up from a number of individual laser scans that observe the surveyed facility from a number of different locations. These individual locations are coalesced together and rendered into a single point cloud in a known coordinate system, allowing the site to be visualised from any eye position.

The following displays a laser model in the 3D view with AID graphics (green) representing each individual laser survey position.

Within the 3D view there is a control to allow the users to navigate to specific points within the laser data. This control will switch the user from the standard AVEVA flight controls to viewing the design and laser data as a photo realistic BubbleView from a fixed eye position. A BubbleView is a photorealistic rendering displaying what the scanner saw each time it was used. The BubbleView is a natural and intuitive way of looking at laser scan data. It allows AVEVA E3D™ model data to be interactively mixed into the view whilst allowing the user to rotate and zoom and take precise 3D measurements within each BubbleView. For example in this case the user is switched to the BubbleView and the camera will be stationary and the model orbits about the camera.

Open Bubble

On the 3D view control tiles select Open Bubble to display the Available BubbleViews window listing the available BubbleViews for the XGEOM element in the display. When the Available BubbleViews window is on screen the scan locations are displayed within the 3D view as a spherical green AID graphic. When the scan location is selected in the window it will display as a tripod in the 3D view.

The user has two ways to open a BubbleView from within the Available BubbleViews window.

The user can open a selected BubbleView from the list displayed.

The user can right click to Select the AID graphics representation of the BubbleView.

Pick a Point

On the 3D view control tiles select Pick a Point, to allow the user to pick a point in the laser model and the application will determine the most appropriate BubbleView to open to view the data.

Finish Looking at Bubble

To close the BubbleView, on the 3D View Control Tiles select Finish looking at bubble. The BubbleView is closed and the viewport reset to the location in the 3D View before the user entered the BubbleView.
