Defaults : Set System Defaults

System defaults are set using the System Defaults window. On the Admin tab, in the Setting group, click System Defaults to display the System Defaults window.

File


Save	As supplied, the DRAW application references a defaults file named DRA-GEN-SYSTEM that is set up to reference the AVEVA library database. After modifying the System Defaults window the administrator can save the updated settings.
Save As	After modifying the System Defaults window the administrator can save the updated setting to a new filename. Click to display a Save Defaults window which allows the administrator to navigate to a location and name the file.
Default settings can be loaded from a file, which may be either the current DRAW defaults file or defaults from a different named file.
Load
Full	Clears all existing default values before loading the new ones. Checks that the minimum number of default values are loaded to allow the application to run correctly. These checks confirm that all layer purposes are defined, that naming conventions are specified, and that sheet sizes are set. If any of these settings are not loaded from the specified file, the standard AVEVA values are loaded so that the application can still function.
Partial	Does not clear existing settings, allowing administrators to overwrite a subset of the total defaults available (which speeds up the process if only a few values are to be updated). Does not check the overall consistency of the loaded defaults.
Load From
Full	Clears all existing default values from the windows before loading the new ones. Checks that the minimum number of default values are loaded to allow the application to run correctly. These checks confirm that all layer purposes are defined, that naming conventions are specified, and that sheet sizes are set. If any of these settings are not loaded from the specified file, the standard AVEVA values are loaded so that the application can still function.

Display Errors	Displays the Default Load Errors window which lists any loading errors. Click Cancel to close the Default Load Errors window. The administrator is returned to the System Defaults window.
Restore Backup	Allows the administrator to reload the previous backup file. Each time the administrator saves an updated defaults file the current defaults settings are saved in a backup file named DRA-GEN-SYSTEM.bak. A confirm window displays asking the administrator to OK re-loading of the default files. Click Yes to load the files.

The current defaults file displays at the top of the window.

The Master Project Defaults and Local Project Defaults sections of the window display the default settings of the pointers to the DRAW Libraries. To change any of these, either type the new element name into the text box, or navigate to the required element and click CE. The text to the right of CE displays the type of element required for each Library.

Note:

The library reference defaults also display on the User Defaults window. On the Tools tab, in the Defaults group, click User Defaults. The User Defaults window is initialised with the settings from the System Defaults window after the defaults have been loaded from file. Subsequent changes made on the User Defaults window override, but do not change the settings on the System Defaults window, allowing a user some flexibility in the use of available libraries during drawing production.

Name Delimiters

By default, the individual parts of drawing element names are separated by a slash delimiting character. For example:

SHEETS/SHLB1/BACK1/SN1

The Name Delimiters allow the administrator to specify any other delimiter character which has been used for Style names, Label Library names and Drawlist Library names.

Layer Purpose Definitions

To open the Layer Purpose Definitions window, click Layer Purpose Definitions on the System Defaults window.

The scrollable list displays all currently defined layer defaults. The highlighted layer is updated by any new settings entered.

All layers have a PURP attribute which is set to a four character keyword which identifies the purpose for which that layer is intended to be used. Layer purposes cannot be duplicated under any one owning View. The Layer Purpose box on the window allows the administrator to specify the purpose as a three-character string (the fourth character is added automatically when setting PURP so that multiple layers of a given type can be created under a single View).

For example, if the administrator has defined a layer with its purpose defined as DIM and a user decides to have three dimension layers in each View for, say, steelwork (STLDIM), equipment (EQUDIM) and piping (PIPDIM), then the View contents might be, for example:

where the fourth character of the PURP (A, B or C) distinguishes the individual DIM layers.

Note:

The purpose keyword TAG is reserved for autotagging layers. It is a requirement of the application and must always be defined in the layer defaults. If it is omitted, a TAG layer purpose definition is appended automatically during default initialisation. The TAG layer purpose definition cannot be deleted.

The Setup File box is used to specify the macro file that is executed to set the layer attributes after a layer has been created. Default macro files are supplied with the product. For example, DRA-GEN-DEFLAY defines the default attribute values for layers which allows users to create layer annotations to a common standard.

The administrator can copy and modify these macro files to meet company and/or project standards. The administrator can also create new files for other purpose types of their own definition.

The Attribute Group check boxes, Dim, Note, Text, Lab and Symb allow the administrator to specify which attribute types display on the Layer Attributes window. The combination which applies to each of the currently defined layers is indicated by the + (selected) and - (unselected) codes in the scrollable list. To change these, turn the attributes on and off as required.

To delete the currently selected layer default, click Delete.

To associate a layer default with a setup file, click Insert.

Click OK to set the layer defaults or Cancel to discard any changes and close the Layer Purpose Definitions window. The administrator is returned to the System Defaults window.

Layer Creation Definitions

To open the Layer Creation Definitions window, click Layer Creation Definitions on the System Defaults window.

The window allows the administrator to define what layers are created, and how they are named when a View is created.

Select the Purpose from the list, and change the Layer Purpose and Suffix as required.

Note:

The administrator can create multiple layers with the same Purpose.

To delete the currently selected layer creation definition, click Delete.

To create a layer creation definition, click Insert.

Click OK to set the layer creation definitions or Cancel to discard any changes and close the Layer Creation Definitions window. The administrator is returned to the System Defaults window.

Layer Purpose Filtering

To open the Layer Purpose Filtering window, click Layer Purpose Filtering on the System Defaults window.

The window defines what Layers are visible in the Layer Note drop-down list on the appropriate application menu bar.

Click OK to define the settings or Cancel to discard any changes and close the Layer Purpose Filtering window. The administrator is returned to the System Defaults window.

Sheet Sizes

To open the Sheet Defaults window, click Sheet Sizes on the System Defaults window.

The Sheet Defaults window allows the administrator to define the dimensions and a reference description for up to 15 standard sheet sizes.

Click OK to define the sheet sizes and descriptions or Cancel to discard any changes and close the Sheet Defaults window. The administrator is returned to the System Defaults window.

Name Conventions

To open the Name Convention window, click Naming Conventions on the System Defaults window.

Mandatory Names

Names for the elements which must be named in order for the application to function correctly: DEPT, REGI, DRWG, SHEE, VIEW and REGION. For example, drawing numbers typically have a common project related prefix, which the administrator should input, in the Prefix field for the drawing element.

Optional Names

Elements which do not need to be named for the application to function: VNOT, NOTE, RRUL and VSEC. For these elements, use the Named check box to specify whether or not automatic naming is required.

Click OK to define the naming conventions or Cancel to discard any changes and close the Name Convention window. The administrator is returned to the System Defaults window.
