Create and Modify Views
:
The 3D View
: Format 3D Tab
Format 3D Tab
3D views are formatted using the
Format 3D
tab. The tab displays when a 3D view is open.
Manage Group
Add Element
Allows you to add elements to the view. Refer to
Add and Remove Model Items to/from the 3D View
for further information.
Remove Element
Allows you to remove selected elements from the view. Refer to
Add and Remove Model Items to/from the 3D View
for further information.
View Contents
Allows you to view a list of the view contents. Refer to
View Contents
for further information.
Navigate Group
Zoom
Allows you to switch the 3D view to zoom mode. Refer to
Pan, Zoom and Rotate
for further information.
Click to display a drop-down list with the following options:
Limits CE
Click to adjust the scale of the view so that it corresponds to the volume of the selected element(s).
Zoom to Selection
Click to zoom into the element selected in the Model Explorer.
Go to Drawlist
Click to zoom to the limits of all the elements in the drawlist.
Centre on Selection
Click to centre the view on the element selected in the Model Explorer.
Parallel
Click to display a drop-down list with the following options:
Parallel
Click to set the view to parallel projection mode.
Perspective
Click to set the view to perspective projection mode.
Model
Click to display a drop-down list with the following options:
Eye
Click to move the 3D model around the current viewpoint.
Model
Click to move the current viewpoint around the 3D model.
Grid Group
Set View
Allows you to modify the view to display a grid plane. Refer to
Grid Plane View
for further information.
Scale Group
Type
Allows you to set the type of scale for the view. The functionality is identical to the Format 2D tab. Refer to
Type

Scale
Allows you to select the scale for the view. The functionality is identical to the Format 2D tab. Refer to
Scale
for further information.
Direction Group
Down
Allows you to set the view direction. The functionality is identical to the Format 2D tab. Refer to
Down
for further information.
Direction
Displays coordinates to indicate the current view direction. The functionality is identical to the Format 2D tab. Refer to
Direction
for further information.
Rotation
Displays the current view angle. The functionality is identical to the Format 2D tab. Refer to
Rotation
for further information.
Limits Group
Limits from Drawlist
Allows you to set the limits of the 3D view to a volume that encloses all items in the view drawlist.
Click to populate the limits fields.
Add CE Fully Within
Click to add to the drawlist any elements under the currently selected element in the Model Explorer which are fully contained by the current limits volume. To add all Model elements that are fully contained by the current limits volume, select the WORLD element in the Model Explorer.
Add CE Partially Within
Click to add to the drawlist any elements under the currently selected element in the Model Explorer which are partially contained by the current limits volume. To add all Model elements that are partially contained by the current limits volume, select the WORLD element in the Model Explorer.
Display
Click to turn the display of the limits box on or off.
East/West, North/South, Up/Down
Allows you to set the limits of the 3D view.
Populate these fields initially by selecting
Limits from Drawlist
.
Then, if required, input dimensional values in the direction fields to define the limits of the view explicitly.
Click the view direction icon adjacent to the field to flip the view direction.
The direction can be defined in
East
,
West
,
North
,
South
,
Up
and
Down
directions using the drop-down lists.
Clear Limits
Click to clear all 3D limits defined for the view.
View Frame
Turns the view frame lock on or off. If the view frame is unlocked, the frame becomes independent of the view limits and is unaffected by any alteration to the view content or limits via 3D view or update commands.
Matchlines
Click to turn the display of matchlines on or off.

Section Group
Create
Allows you to create a section plane, an existing view can be modified to display only specific parts of it. Refer to
Create 3D Section Planes
for further information
Display
Click to turn the display of section planes on or off. A hatched area indicates the side of the plane that an area of the view is removed from.
Functionality is available to modify the section planes. Refer to
Modify Section Plane using Grip Points
for further information.
Delete
Click to delete the currently selected section plane.
Cutting List
Each section plane can be associated with a pre-defined cutting list, which is effectively a drawlist. Elements within the cutting list can be removed from the view, allowing for other elements to remain within the view even though a section plane exists.
Select from the drop-down list to associate the currently selected section plane with a cutting list.
Direction
Select from the drop-down list to modify the cutting direction of the currently selected section plane.
The direction can be defined in
East
,
West
,
North
,
South
,
Up
and
Down
directions using the drop-down list.
A hatched area indicates the side of the plane that an area of the view is removed from.
Open/Closed
Select from the drop-down list to define the shape of the currently selected section plane.
Select
Open
to define a section plane as an open ended shape. For example, an L shape consisting of two planes.
Select
Closed
to define a section plane as a closed shape. For example, a rectangle.
Clipping Group
Clip
Click to turn all clipping on or off for both the limits box (if defined) and any defined section planes.
When the 3D view is entered, clipping is off.
Note:
If any section planes are enabled individually for clipping, the option becomes active.
Clip Plane
Allows you to turn clipping on or off for individual section planes. Refer to
Define Clipping Plane
for further information.
Cap
Elements that are intersected by the clipping plane can have a coloured cap added to indicate that they extend beyond the display region.
Click to turn the capping of clipped elements or off. The default cap settings can be defined. Refer to
Current View
for further information.
Laser Group
Display
Click to display a drop-down list with the following options:
Display
Allows you to define the display of laser data for the view. Refer to
Laser Data
for further information.
Low Density Points
Low density point laser data is laser data that has not been defined as detailed laser data. Refer to
Detail Laser Data
for further information.
Click to remove low density point laser data from the view.
Repeat the command to add low density point laser data to the view
Remember Group
Freeze
Click to remember the current scale and view direction.
Restore
Click to restore the scale or view direction to when it was last frozen, or to the 3D view entry state.
Complete Group
Apply
Click to close the 3D view and save the current scale and view direction. Changes to the view content and section planes are also saved. The view is resized to the limits.
Finish
For a new view, the functionality is the same as clicking
Apply
.
For an existing view, the functionality is equivalent to clicking
Restore
and then clicking
Apply
. The current scale and view direction are not saved. Modifications to the view content and section planes are saved. The view is resized to the limits.
Cancel
Click to close the 3D view without saving any changes.
Note:
Creation and modification of user defined section planes is an exception, these are always saved immediately.
