Walls and Floors Options : Hierarchy

Hierarchy

All database elements are owned by other elements, therefore elements must be created in a strict order.

The following database elements are common to all Design disciplines:

World

•

Site

•

Zone.

Administrative Hierarchy

Below the zone in all applications under structures, have three administrative elements in common (these database elements are only available in the four applications) in this case the WALLS AND FLOORS application.

However unique to the WALLS AND FLOORS application these administrative elements can be used as a means of organising elements in the 3D model which represent the areas of the building, refer to Building Levels for more information.

Building Levels

The Building levels functionality is unique to the Walls and Floors application, the functionality allows the user:

Create and modify the levels within a building

•

Create storage areas for elements.

On the WALLS AND FLOORS tab, in the TOOLS group, click Building Levels to display the Building Levels window.

All the tasks that a user would carry out that are associated with building levels are initiated from the Building Levels window. The user can create, modify or delete building levels and then associated storage areas. It is normal practice to create building levels (STR) and then associate storage areas to FRMW/SBFR elements.

Settings

The Settings functionality available from the Settings drop-down list allows the user to set/unset storage areas and define the datum to which all elevations are referenced to.


Unset Storage Area	By default the setting is not applied which means storage area are automatically set.
Wrt	Allows the user to define the datum to which the elevations are applied (elevations are absolute with respect to the datum).

Create

From the Building Levels window, select Control > CE to identify the required element in the model explorer.

A Confirm window is displayed:

Click Yes to populate the Building Levels window with the details of the CE.

Click No to discard any inputs.

From the Building Levels window, select Create > Level to display the Create Level window.

The Create Level window allows the user to either Create a new building level.


Name	Input a name for the new building level element or select Autoname.
Attributes	Allows the user to input the attributes for the new building level element.
Elevation	Allows the user to input the elevation for the new building level element.
OK	Click OK to create the building level element in the Design Database and close the Create Level window.
Cancel	Click Cancel to discard changes and close the Create Level window.

Refer to Modify Building Levels for more information on the modification and deletion of building levels.

The administrative SBFR level in particular is used to emphasis building elements, such as wall and floors. The elements are called soft type elements which used at the SBFR level in the hierarchy to represent walls, floors and fittings. Soft type elements have the same attributes as standard elements (SCTN, GENSEC) but are named differently to identify them.
