Claimlists

Common Functionality User Guide

On the Manage tab, in the Access group, click Claimlists to display the Multiwrite Claim Lists window.

The user can only claim elements in a multiwrite database. Claiming an element in a multiwrite database stops other users working on it. If the database is single user, the user is the only person who can write to it.

Note:

The Multiwrite Claim Lists window is used to control user claims. If the user is working in an extract database, the user also needs to consider extract claims, which are controlled using the Extract Data Control window.

Multiwrite databases have a claim mode, which is set when the database is created. If the claim mode is Explicit, the user must claim an element before the user can work on it. If the claim mode is Implicit, an element which the user starts to change is automatically claimed, but the user can also choose to claim it explicitly before the user works on it, using the Multiwrite Claim List window.

The user can only claim significant elements. For example: In Design the user can claim a whole BRAN, but the user cannot claim Branch members individually.

In DRAW the user can claim Sheets, or elements above them in the hierarchy.

The Control menu has two option, Update which updates the list. The list is automatically updated each time it is shown, and the Active Claimlist is updated when the user claims elements using the window, but in other cases the list may not show all the claimed elements unless Update is used. The Close option closes the Multiwrite Claim Lists window.

The Claim menu has the following options:


CE	Claims the CE and all of the hierarchy below it.
CE Members	Claims the members of CE and all of their hierarchy below, but not CE.
CE only	Claims the CE only, not any hierarchy below it. The option can be used, for example if the user wants to change an attribute such as a description which does not affect any elements below the current element.
CE Members only	Claims each member only and not the hierarchy below.
Pick	Only active in DESIGN. Allows the user to claim elements by graphical picking using event driven graphics.
Current Collection	Claims all elements in the selected collections. Collections are created using the Collections window.

The Unclaim menu has the following options:


All	Unclaims all elements in the Active Claimlist and updates all the claimlists.
Selected	Unclaims all the items selected in the Elements list.
CE	Unclaims the CE and all of the hierarchy below it.
CE Members	Unclaims the members of CE and all of the hierarchy below, but not CE.
CE only	Unclaims the CE only, not any hierarchy below it. The option can be used, for example if the user wants to change an attribute such as a description which does not affect any elements below the current element.
CE Members only	Unclaims each member only and not the hierarchy below.
Pick	Only active in DESIGN. Allows the user to claim elements by graphical picking using event driven graphics.
Current Selection	Unclaims all elements in the selected collections. Collections are created using the Collections window.

The Colour menu is only active in Design. The options available are:


Highlight	The Active Claimlist is the users claimlist. A list of all the significant elements that the user has claimed is displayed in the Elements list.
Unhighlight	The Elements scrolling list displays all claimed elements of all users in the current MDB except those in the Active Claimlist. The user name is also shown in the Elements list next to the element name or refno. An additional option is added to this control for every individual user who has a claimlist.

The Database menu allows the user to view all the claimed elements in the MDB or in the DB selected from the submenu.

The Claim List drop-down menu has two options:


Active Claimlist	The Active Claimlist is the users claimlist. A list of all the significant elements that the user has claimed is displayed in the Elements list.
Others Claimlist	The Elements scrolling list displays all claimed elements of all the users in the current MDB except those in the Active Claimlist. The user name is also shown in the Elements list next to the element name or Refno. An additional option is added to this control for every individual user who has a Claimlist.

Note:

Clicking on any element in the Elements list to navigate to that element.

The user must unclaim any elements which have been claimed, before other users can access them. Other users must do a Get Work before the changes can be viewed. The user cannot unclaim an element that has been changed until the user has done a Save Work. If the user changes to a different module or exits the software, all elements are unclaimed.

Clicking Cancel closes the window.
