Snap Object
Aids the positioning of new points by placing them relative to the geometry of existing objects. Refer to Status Bar for further information.
When object snapping is on, if a point is being specified and it is close to the snap point of an existing object, a symbol displays to indicate that the snap point is present.
In the example, a line is being drawn. The orange symbol indicates that the line endpoint is close to a snap point on an existing object (in this case the endpoint of a diamond, as indicated by a box).
The following types of snap point are available:

Endpoint - endpoints of primitives.
•
Midpoint - middle points of primitives.
•
Centre - centre points (for example, for circles arcs or ellipses).
•
Node - node points (for example, for text objects).
•
Quadrant - points representing quadrants of circles, arcs or ellipses.
•
Item - primitive origin, start or end point.
•
Intersection - primitive intersection points.
•
Extension - the cursor is attracted by virtual extensions of existing primitives.
•
Insertion - insertion points of complex objects.
•
Perpendicular - points of primitives, or their extensions, where the line connecting the point and the previous point is perpendicular to the primitive.
•
Tangent - points of primitives where the line connecting the point and the previous point is tangent to the primitive.
•
Owner - owning element of the currently selected primitive.
•
Nearest - nearest points of primitives.
•
Parallel - points on a virtual line parallel to the indicated primitive.
•
P-Point - P-points of primitives.
•
P-Line End Point- start and end primitive P-line points.
•
P-Line Mid points- primitive middle P-line points.
•
Laser - points on laser data.
•
Apparent intersection - points where primitives intersect (visually), but there is no actual 3D intersection because of different depths of the primitives in space.
Different symbols display for each type. Each type of snap point can be turned on or off (made available or unavailable). Refer to Advanced Drafting Settings for further information).
You can retain a snap selection between different states of the same operation using the AVEVA PowerWheel™. For example, it is possible to select a linear dimension that only snaps to end points.
To use a single snap type, select the required operation, for example, linear dimension (refer to Add Annotation for further information). Press Shift and simultaneously Right-click the drawing canvas. The AVEVA PowerWheel™ displays the snapping options:
Select the required snapping option. You are only able to snap to the selected option until the operation is finished or None is selected from the AVEVA PowerWheel™.
