Factors Affecting Export
: Alternative Data Exchange Path
Alternative Data Exchange Path
AVEVA Engineering™ can create a direct connection with external databases, such as SQL. Any changes made on either side can then be transferred and updated to the other side. The Compare and Update functionality can be used to maintain the current state of each database for each context or discipline. The target database system must have the equivalent capability, possibly requiring the development of small add-ins to support such processes.
In this environment, IFC export might be used to transfer the main geometry, along with sufficient attribute information (GUIDs) to allow the unique identification of each element in the source and target systems. After this exchange, direct database to database connection can be used to transfer or link other attributes.
This method can provide a solution for any performance issues caused by a large number of attributes transferred using IFC. It also includes the possibility for round-tripping of attributes between databases.
