Area
Creates area definitions to determine a group of model elements within a volume or modify the representation of laser survey data.
When dealing with a large complex site or model it is necessary to sub-divide the site into groupings. It is possible to sub-divide modelled items into functional groupings, disciplines using database hierarchies and database attribute settings, for example, the purpose attribute. Additionally the site can be sub-divided spatially, this is achieved using the area hierarchy. Area volumes can then be used to populate 3D view using the Model Explorer.
A single laser survey can span a large spatial volume (often the complete facility). It is often the case that only a small area of the survey is required for use. The area hierarchy allows you to classify the laser survey using area elements and then store defined volumes of the laser survey in the design database for future use and use by others. The classification of the laser survey can take several forms. For example, a room, a pump or a vessel. These defined volumes can then be used to manipulate the representation of the laser survey. The laser functionality allows you to:
•
Optimise the display resolution of the laser survey within the area definition volume.
•
Highlight detailed laser survey data within the area definition volume.
•
Remove detailed laser survey data within the area definition volume.
The classification of the volumes is not just applicable to the laser survey, it can be used to locate modelled items within the volume. The area element can contain any number of primitives to define the volume, negative primitives cannot be used.
