: Reference Grids
Reference Grids
Creates project wide and local rectangular and cylindrical grids in MODEL.
Reference grids are related to design areas and some are project wide, whilst others are associated locally, for example, to a building or a room. Reference grids are particularly important for the layout of structures and for relating piping to them.
Reference grids are used as a pre-configured layout tool for modelling and can be used to control the position of elements. Multiple reference grids can be created for a project and user-defined grid labels can be added to the reference grid.
Hierarchy
All database elements are owned by other elements, therefore elements must be created in a strict order.
Grid World (GRIDWL)
Grid World (GRDWL) elements are created below the Model World element. GRDWL elements can own Reference Grid (REFGRD) elements and Identification Information (IDINFO) elements. If a GRDWL element is not available when a reference grid is created, MODEL creates a GRDWL element, by default. GRDWL elements can be created by an administrator. Refer to
Reference Grids
for further information.
Reference Grid (REFGRD)
REFGRD elements are administrative and can own Grid Face (GRIDFA) and Grid Elevation (GRIDEL) elements. By default, a REFGRD element is created for each grid.
Grid Face (GRIDFA)
GRIDFA elements are owned by REFGRD elements. By default, a GRIDFA element is created for each horizontal face of the reference grid. For example, on a rectangular reference grid, a GRIDFA element is created for the X axis and the Y axis. GRIDFA elements can own Grid Plane (GRIDPL elements).
Grid Elevation (GRIDEL)
GRIDEL elements are owned by REFGRD elements. By default, a GRIDEL element is created for each vertical face of the reference grid. For example, on a rectangular reference grid, a GRIDEL element is created for the Z axis. GRIDEL elements can own Grid Plane (GRIDPL) elements.
Grid Plane (GRIDPL)
GRIDPL elements are owned by GRIDFA and GRIDEL elements. By default, a GRIDPL element is created for each specified plane upon grid creation. These elements dictate the shape and geometry of the reference grid.
Identification Information (IDINFO)
IDINFO elements are administrative and can own Face Label (FACELB) and Elevation Label (ELEVLB) elements. By default, an IDINFO element is created for each GRIDWL element.
Face Label (FACELB)
FACELB elements are owned by IDINFO elements. By default, a FACELB element is created for each horizontal face of the reference grid. The FACELB elements contain properties that define the default grid label settings for all reference grids in the GRDWL. Refer to
Reference Grid Annotations
for further information.
Elevation Label (ELEVLB)
ELEVLB elements are owned by IDINFO elements. By default, an ELEVLB element is created for the vertical face of the reference grid. The ELEVLB element contains properties that define the default grid label settings for all reference grids in the GRDWL. Refer to
Reference Grid Annotations
for further information.
